Creative people....help!

I need some ideas! My beautiful mom spent weeks every year canning fruit, making jams and apple sauce and giving them generously to her family and friends~ I have some left that I cannot bring myself to eat because I do not want it to ever be the very last jar....It would break my heart~

But for now I do have some empty jars and I would really love to do something creative with them. Decorate something, give them as gifts full of something besides canned goods because I am sure I would not be any good at that~
I would LOVE some ideas please!! I need help to re-invent the jars, and be able to enjoy them or give them with love as my beautiful mom always did~

  1. What about making homemade candles within them? Or colored, yummy smelling bath salts?

  3. mason jars are great. i love them to hold flowers. also, i have always loved seeing them as lanterns hanging from trees, like here...

  4. Here's my idea... Go through magazines and cut out photos and words that remind you of your mom... with some torn pieces of colorful tissue paper, decoupage these on to the jars, and now you have beautiful vases to hold flowers. Every time you see them, they will remind you - in a beautiful way - of your mom.

  8. Gosh, my first thought was put some nice candy -maybe something that your mom liked or you or both? Then, I thought buttons. Cute buttons, I get the idea that your mom loved colors- But then, I thought why not write quotes or wishes and put the little papers in there... so once in awhile when you need inspiration or just a little word you can open the jar and pick one..and when they are gone you can fill it again! Or if giving away, maybe some cookies? or fudge? Hope it helps :)

  9. Ok, here's a weird idea, but one that my kids LOVE. You get a jar and etch on the side of it, "Vitamin L" which stands for Vitamin Love. Then you fill it with candies and everytime you do something with love for someone else, you get a treat, OR when someone does something for you. Kind of kiddish, but maybe other ideas can stem from that. :D (although, I do have a really good apple butter recipe I can send you and you can make it and some warm bread and give it as little 'hugs' from your mom.) You're amazing, Tiff..

  11. In the bigger jars you can put all the dry ingredients for cookies and give them away. All the person has to do is add the wet ingredients and bake! (Include the recipe for the wet ingredients on top of the jar or on an attached note.)

  17. you are so sweet to want to share these lovely jars with others and to do something special with them. i always love getting them as gifts with dry cookie or brownie ingredients inside and i love to give them with bath salts. i always add a little label on the outside, using sticker paper for your printer that you can buy at office depot.
so happy to have found your blog! best wishes to you :)

  19. I was at a thrift store and there was this jar turned into a lamp. The jar was filled with buttons. I think you can go to the hardware store to find the parts of the lamps. It was very cute!!

  20. Hi there, what a lovely blog! I just kinda stumbled across it! I was just reading everyones ideas on what to do with your jars I think Candles are a lovely idea, you could also paint the glass with lots of bright colours (using glass paint) so that when the candles are lit it would make all sorts of shapes and colours. I've never tried this before but think it would look cool.
    Take care :0)
